7/22/2011-ACTING-Last Day Filming with “Stone”

-Unfortunately, the rain from the last shoot made the footage sub par so that whole scene had to be re-shot again. So here we were right have some brutally hot weather had hit CNY-it actually wasn’t that bad this night. Kinda cool actually. The moths / bugs were a bigger problem. Kinda funny-looking at these pics, I seemed to have picked up a different shade of skin color 🙂 I had to get a new set of shades cause the ones I wore for this series got stepped on during the last shoot. They’re repaired, but do have a large crack that is noticeable on 1 lens. I got a pair that looked very close to the original.

-Filming went at a decent clip. There were a couple of things done on this take that were different than from the last one.My tie got some action this time around for one. And I didn’t bruise Chrissy’s chest when I pushed her away this time around 🙂 I hope the footage came out good this time around.

-It was great working w/ the “Stone” cast/crew again and look forward to seeing this all edited. Maybe that rain footage will make it on a “deleted scenes” section on the MAF site or DVD or something 🙂 Pics are up on my acting page on Facebook.

7/15/2011-BAND PRIMER-You Tube-Pt.2

-Last month I started talking about You Tube and how that, if you don’t have your band on this network, you should do so right away. Most people have a basic idea of how to use You Tube but for those who are new to it, here’s some tips to help you out.

-When starting your You Tube page, you first need to have a gmail account. To my knowledge, there is no exception to this. When creating the name of your page, it’s best to use your band’s name. If you are a solo performer, use that. If it is taken, add something to make it stand out. For example, my band-Caroline Blue-had already been taken so I named the page CarolineBlueOfficial.

-Then you are led to a control panel where you can, to a degree, customize your page. For those who know how to do HTML programming, you can use this but I would suggest keeping it simple. The last thing you need is for someone to go on your page and then have, for example, no one able to read the text on it cause you decided to layer a multicolored picture as your wall paper and the text color doesn’t stand out.

-Then you upload your videos. I would suggest either having your most recent or most popular video on the main screen. If the most recent, make sure your most popular videos are listed in your “uploaded” column. There’s also a “favorites” area where you can list thumbnails of videos of your band from other pages-if they exist. Fill in all the basics like band bio, location, etc.

-You’ll notice 2 different areas-one for your “Friends” and one for your “Subscribers.” There is also an area that shows who you have subscribed to. With “Friends” it’s similar to My Space. You go to a page and click on “Add Friend” and if they accept, you have added to your count. While it’s nice to have a large friend count, it doesn’t mean you have that many people actively checking you out. “Subscribers” are those who click on your “Subscribe” button so they are notified when you have new videos, send out bulletins, etc. Don’t go all “My Space” with this though. Sending out 20 updates/bulletins in 20 minutes is annoying wherever it happens & being deleted is only a click away. One thing to note-You Tube only allows you to try to “add” about 10 people per hour so if you go that route, realize it’s slow & steady that helps to increase your count. More next month!

7/11/2011-ACTING-Flming on “King of the Neighborhood”

-Just back from filming a small scene in “King of the Neighborhood”-a comedy film by Joesph Basla. He’s also one of the leads. The other lead is Tommy DeSocio and manning the camera is Nick Compoli.

-I saw an ad for roles in this on Craigslist a month or 2 ago-went over and got the small supporting role of a jogger (who happens to be an Iraq War veteran) who sees 2 teenagers at a lemonade stand. Their story is that Tommy was in Iraq, got captured by the enemy and during that time was raped and got AIDS. While talking to them their story falls apart, I catch on, and then wreck havok on them. 🙂

-Nice hot & humid day. I was lucky in that we got to filming the scene I was in right away and this only took a few hours. We had to do different takes due to angles, but very few mess ups from anyone. Wish I had some pics of me “teaching them a lesson” but I guess you’ll have to wait to see the film for that 😉 The last take for the final part of the scene was the best & I’m glad what I did to Tommy got captured. Another plus was my last lines in the end weren’t in the script-I came up w/ them and they liked them. Glad I wasn’t the only one who though they were funny 🙂

-Everything went great-with the exception of the stand falling apart shortly after I arrived so time had to be spent repairing it. I have to admit it was kinda weird running in those shoes…kinda hard to stop in them when going full sprint too. 🙂

-Had a great time working w/ Joe, Nick & Tommy and I want to thank them for the opportunity to have a part in their film. You can check out updates on this film on their page. Pics are on the WWJ PAGE ON FACEBOOK

7/5/2011-ACTING-Back From Filming on Star Trek:Phase II-Episode “Mind Sifter”

-JUNE 2011-About a month ago I received a message from film producer Jeff Forsyth. He wanted to tell me about this popular Web Series called “Star Trek New Voyages:Phase II.” He said they needed extras for a corridor scene in an episode they were about to film called “Mind Sifter” and wanted to know if I would be interested. He also sent me a link to their latest episode “Enemy:Starfleet.” I checked it out and was very surprised at how well done it was. IMHO, outside of different cast members, it looked just like the original TV series-effects & everything. Even w/ the distance and cost, I told Jeff yes and he told me to contact Patty-the writer for the series. I did so and waited for word if I could do it. I mean, I knew I could be an extra-the requirements (usually) for an extra are that you have to be breathing (HA!). Course, my hair isn’t Starfleet Regulations but… 🙂

-So Patty gets back to me and not only says I can be in the episode-but they had a role for me-a speaking role. Wow! I can’t remember who it was, but I guess someone saw my IMDB pics and said “Walking Bear!” Ensign Dawson Walking Bear (WB) is a character from the Star Trek Animated show from the 70’s. He was only in 1 episode-which I could not find on You Tube to study. All I found was a PSA and it was OK. My hair was still too long, but I wasn’t going to argue. 🙂

-The pics I’m putting up are from the following days: 6/18, 6/19, 6/24, 6/25 & 6/26. My 1st weekend was me getting there & back via rides from Ben F. & Eddie. The 2nd week I rented a car. Port Henry is an interesting little town. Barely any cell service for me there and on location I had none at all. That’s OK though-there were plenty of people to talk with. -I just want to say up front the cast & crew for this are really wonderful & very supportive. I’m totally amazed at what is done there to make things happen. For example, there are only 2 sets that are permanent-the Bridge and the Transporter Room. All other rooms (Corridor / Sickbay / Spock’s Quarters / etc.) have to be built and wired 1st-then the scene is shot-and then it’s all torn down (!) and the next one starts to be built. There are also some hard core Trekies here-and I mean hard core. Continuity is something that is taken very seriously here. That leads to this next part.

-There was a copy of the episode from the animated series that had WB in it. Someone said they thought he had his hair in a ponytail so we had to watch it to make sure-plus if they wanted me to play him exactly as the show I should be prepared to do so no? 🙂 Well, we watched it and I was very glad to be told that I had free reign on what I wanted to do w/ the character. On the show, my impression of WB is that he seemed sad & tired most of the time. His voice was done by James Doohan (Scotty) and you could hear a little bit of him there-at least I could. He just seemed less than ordinary. Now, if I was told I had to play him exactly like on that show I would have-but to me, it wouldn’t added anything to the show.

-My interpretation of WB is that he is a professional (a Starfleet Ensign & manning the helm on the Bridge after all) and proud. He’s no pushover. He can be direct and a little cold ( a nod towards Spock in a way) but also sociable. One noticeable thing is that he has a quick temper. I established that in my 1st scene being filmed on this. In fact, right after the 1st take of my 1st scene, James Cawley (Cpt. Kirk and the one who made this whole series possible) asked to see me in the next room. I was thinking “Did I do something wrong?”. On the contrary, he asked if I wanted to be a permanent member of the cast-you betcha! I’m very happy to be a part of this team.

-During those 5 days a lot of work was done. There were some delays, but that got taken care of. Again-great cast & crew. Although I will say hopefully the next time I’m in the cabins I hope I won’t be set up next to a guy who snores so loud-or at least warn me so I can bring ear muffs (HA!). I got to talk with a number of the cast & crew and it was awesome-especially since-because of copyright issues and stuff-this is mostly a volunteer effort. Yep-all this hard work is being done by many here for free. And you have some people coming in as far away as the UK. Incredible…..It’s also very warm in those outfits. The transporter room is the hottest room there-there have been stories of people melting up there 🙂 They also had a makeup room and there was even one of the makeup people on the sets (Brian, Emlee and/or Bill) who made sure we were taken care of between takes. Sometimes we’d go till 1-2 AM but I’m not complaining. This beats a 9-5 job any day IMHO 🙂

-I did what I could to help out. Course, you know me-I’m throwing out cornball jokes constantly. 🙂 One of the support cast wasn’t able to make it to the shoot so they asked me to learn the stuff and do it. Sure-more screen time right? 🙂

-The 2nd half of the shoot takes place in the Fall. I have 1 scene to be in there so I’ll be back on this (or album #2 if there are that many pics) w/ an update. I just want to say thanks to everyone involved in this and especially thank Jeff, Patty, Rob, James & Sarge for the opportunity to be here. I made a lot of new friends & I will work to raise myself up to the quality of this series. Pics are now up on my acting page on Facebook.

7/2/2011-ACTING-Last Day Filming on “Equitable Exchange”

-7/2/11-This was a short day. Had to do what is known as “Pick Up” shots. A few scenes had to be re-shot-as well as one that had me and Katie in it that never even got filmed. Sadly, it’s still not filmed 😦 but might be in a future pick up. For some reason, I couldn’t get to sleep till 4 AM-and I had to be up around 6 AM. Luckily, Scott told me I didn’t have to be there till at least 9:30. Course, if you give me that much leeway…I arrived at 11 🙂

-It was great to meet up with some of the EE cast / crew again-although we didn’t have too much time to chat. Met some new people too-which was cool. My end scene was filmed again and I hope it came out good this time. If not, we’ll do again right? 🙂 Still can’t post any gore / blood pics-got some goods one too. Oh well…y’all have to wait till the movie’s out I guess 🙂

-Filming was wrapped at around 2 PM-and it went by quick. Had a great time & a lot of fun. Pics are now up on my acting page on Facebook.
