6/28/2011-ACTING-Sent In Video Audition for “Night of Something Strange”

-I sent out a second video audition for the upcoming production “Night of Something Strange.” I sent out previously one for the main lead. They liked it but asked if I could do one for the lead zombie / villain of the film “Corneilus.” They wanted an “attack” video, something I’ve never done before. I was able to with the help of Ron Bonk & Brian Hewitt. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to post it on You Tube. Wish me good luck! 🙂

6/15/2011-BAND PRIMER-You Tube-Pt. 1

-Back in the day, bands having music videos seemed like a dream, a luxury. They were usually paid for by the record companies-because, back then, they were the only ones who could afford the price tag of making one. How things have changed….

-Today, you can use your cell phone or camcorder (web cam?) & record live performance, interviews-even simple concept videos. You can also do more complex concept videos requiring more advanced software but even some lower end editing software can do a lot. So you make a video-next step is to show it. But where? Well, you could host it on your own site right? Not bad-but bandwidth usage costs from personal sites can add up. That’s when you go to the “free” sites-the most popular of which is You Tube.

-If you haven’t started to put videos of your band/music up on You Tube-I would suggest doing so ASAP. You want to reach as many people as possible and this is potentially how to do it.

-At the very least, there are 2 types of videos to put up. One is live performance video. Usually from a single source-this allows people who can’t make it to your shows to have the next best thing. Plus it allows them to watch it in the comfort of their own home. In addition, they can watch it again (& again) if they like it. Better-they can leave comments (although sometimes that’s not better, per say, cause you can get some really ugly comments as well). Then, after doing this, not only can you send out links to your page/videos, but you can get an embed code for the videos themselves and put that on your website-so now when people watch it, they’re using You Tube’s bandwidth-not yours. Whether it’s links and/ or embedding, you can potentially promo your music anywhere that allows it via this method.

-The 2nd kind of video is for those who have audio recordings of their music. While it could be live tracks, it’s better to have studio tracks-the best that you can make. By using either a single picture (like a CD cover) or a slide show of different pics, you can sync your music to those images and-there you go-you have a video. This is good to have for people who may be interested in downloading your music and want to hear a studio version of it before doing so.

-Next month I’ll get more into You Tube like how to set up a page & more tips on how to make You Tube work for you.

-Also-I apologize for “BAND PRIMER” not being in last month’s issue. I got tied up with too many things and when I got the time to write, the deadline had already passes. I’ll work harder to make sure that doesn’t happen again. See you next month!

6/12/2011-ACTING-Second Weekend Filming “Equitable Exchange”

-6/11 + 6/12-Days 3 + 4 of filming. Both were 12 hour days. The weather was kinda crazy this weekend-especially on Day 4. It ranged from cloudy, to sunny, to warm, to cold-strange weather. Filming was still being done at a fairly brisk pace. I again stayed overnight in the area to make sure I could be there on time for both days.

-Out of the 2 days, Day 4 was the more intense for me. In fact, the main scene I was in was one of the hardest scenes I’ve had to film to date. For spoiler reasons, I can’t post any pics of anyone who had a “death” scene-with Tristan being the exception. I guess it’s “common knowledge” that’s he’s gonna get killed in the film….plus he’s wearing a red shirt so… 🙂 When this is released I’ll be allowed to post the other pics-as well as more details as to how things happened. For now, though, this is basically what I’ve been allowed to post/say.

-I believe this is going to turn out awesome and I’m very grateful to be able to be a part of this. Excellent cast & crew. On day 4 I even did some more crew work-that’s great cause it makes one appreciate the hard work that they do even more.

-There is one more day of shooting but not at this location and it’s a much shorter day. there was 1 scene left that I had to do, but it wasn’t a long one and if it gets cut, it gets cut. I actually was put into some additional scenes that weren’t in the scripts-and even got some additional lines so I can’t complain. I was told I might be called in to do a few touch ups so we’ll see.

-As this starts getting into promo mode I’ll do my best to do my share to help as well. Again-I’m very thankful to have been given to opportunity to be involved w/ this & a big “Thanks” to all the cast & crew for helping me to rise up to their level. Pics are up on my acting page on Facebook.

6/5/2011-ACTING-First Weekend Filming with “Equitable Exchange”

-6/4-6/5,2011-the 1st weekend of shooting for “Equitable Exchange” (AKA We’re Killing Hippies). I actually answered a Craigslist ad for this months ago. I went there and auditioned for 3 roles-got the role of “Bryce”. The description I put in my 1st pic of me as him up here fits him very well 🙂 . Kinda funny-and interesting (as well as challenging) for me to play this role because, as anyone who knows me knows, I’ve never done drugs. I’ve been around enough users via CAROLINE BLUE though-plus “Bryce” is played as a “stereotypical stoner” so……

-With the help of my good friend Sarah B. & her husband Damien, I got a ride to Rochester early Sat. morning. I had to be on location at 6:30 AM. Yep-that’s early (HA!). This is the biggest production I’ve been on to date. Very well organized. It was cool to see the crew doing their jobs. I got to meet the cast and watch them perform-great stuff. Took me awhile to learn people’s names (I’m still working on it). The pics you see are behind the scenes pics. I couldn’t take pics of the actual scenes cause 1-it’s a spoiler and #2 the mic’s used are so sensitive that they can hear my camera taking a pic so…

-I had a great time. I was in character most of day 1-and parts of day 2. You know-cracking cornball jokes when I can. Got into a few added scenes which was cool. There were times when I wasn’t being filmed, but I did help out the crew from time to time. Plus I was just soaking it all in-seeing how the crew did their jobs and the other cast members performed. It was great to be working on a high level-makes me work harder to get up there myself….

-The 1st day we fell behind due to it raining for 1one and a half hours. Even with that though, filming ran quickly. The plan is to film everything in 4 days. Yes-the entire movie in 4 days.

-I stayed at a motel Sat. night and was back on the set at 6 AM Sunday. Two 12 hour days-it can be exhausting. The weather was great on Sun. Did get a little sunburned though.

-As you can see by the last pic I added in this set, I am a little “open” so to speak. How open? Well, you’ll have to buy the DVD to find that out 🙂 That was a very interesting scene to do-a lot of fun though. One thing didn’t get filmed-and I wish it did. I was walking around that closed set for awhile with just a towel and a smile. Suddenly, Tracy (camera woman) spots 2 old ladies walking toward the set. I thought they were just neighbors so-you know me-I get into “Bryce” mode and start walking over when Tracy turned around waving me off saying they were Jehovah’s Witnesses! Worse-the other person in the scene was almost ready to say her line-whcih was like “Oh Fuck…Jesus Christ…” If they’d heard that, they would’ve stuck around trying to convert us all day. I wish it had been taped-so did our director Scott. The thing is, if Tracy hadn’t have stopped me, I would’ve went over to them-in “Bryce” mode and just interacted with thm-even if I found out they were JW’s. I probably would’ve said stuff like…”Yeah, man…God’s heavy man…” and/or…”I’m just as nature made me Bible Babes…” (HA!) 🙂 Oh well….

-Had a great time working w/ an excellent cast & crew and am looking forward to next week’s filming. 🙂 Pics are up on my acting page on Facebook.
